PSIII-4 Late-Breaking: Genetic Marker Association Study of Heifer Pregnancy in Red Angus Cattle

چکیده

Abstract Heifer pregnancy (HPG) is lowly heritable, yet economically relevant in beef cattle production systems. Hence, identifying single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) associated with phenotype could increase the amount of information used genetic evaluation trait. Using RNA-sequence data from lactating Holstein cows, a set SNP (n = 69) were discovered among embryo mortality conceptuses (Conceptus-SNP) maternal recognition on day 16 after artificial insemination (AI). To further study these SNP, our objective was to conduct analyses identify markers HPG Red Angus. Phenotypic records and genotypes provided by Angus Association America (RAAA). For phenotypes, total 59,387 records, June 2022 RAAA evaluation, analysis. genotype data, 47,860 panel (excluding X-chromosome) formed combining historical (96,162 animals genotypes) whole genome sequence 30 prominent AI sires. Markers mapped ARS-UCD1.2 bovine reference then imputed using findhap software. A subset 2,169 SNP; Conceptus-SNP multi-breed selected reduced [MSRP]) extracted file. PLINK software, quality control procedure performed so that call rate < 0.9 removed. marker removed if: it had minor allele frequency 0.01, not Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium (P 0.00001), or high linkage disequilibrium (r2 > 0.95). The final file contained 96,667 2,137 SNP. Bayes Cπ single-step super hybrid model (π 0.99), BOLT software package, estimate marker’s posterior probability inclusion (PPI), significance criterion predicting HPG. PPI calculated as average four different Gibbs sampling chains 75,000 iterations included 5,000 burn-in. rs42576394 (18:60583784) rs42942055 (14:34249373) 25.5 7.1%, respectively; suggesting association None detectable HPG; however, may be much more informative for trait stayability. Such would measured mature cows potentially similar which discovered.

Genetic parameters for intramuscular fat percentage, marbling score, scrotal circumference, and heifer pregnancy in Red Angus cattle.

Selection criteria for yearling bulls commonly include indicators of fertility and carcass merit, such as scrotal circumference (SC) and intramuscular fat percentage (IMF). Genetic correlation estimates between ultrasound traits such as IMF and carcass marbling score (MS) with fertility traits SC and heifer pregnancy (HP) have not been reported. Therefore, the objective of this study was to est...

Genetic Improvement of Heifer Pregnancy and Performance in Beef Cattle

Current genetic improvement programs should place more emphasis on improving profitability than on one or a small group of traits, under the framework of economic relevance (Golden et al., 2000). When profit is defined generally as revenue minus cost, true economically relevant traits (ERT) have a direct impact on either income or expenses, whereas indicator traits provide a means to increase a...

Genetic diversity and population structure of American Red Angus cattle.

The objective of this study was to characterize the population structure and genetic diversity of registered American Red Angus cattle. Inbreeding and average relationship coefficients, effective population size, effective number of founders, and effective number of herds supplying grandparents to the population were calculated from the recorded pedigree. Inbreeding in 1960 was 10.7% and decrea...

Additive genetic parameter estimates for heifer pregnancy and subsequent reproduction in Angus females.

A primary objective of this study was to determine whether the binary traits heifer pregnancy (HP) and subsequent rebreeding (SR) were heritable in an experimental population of Angus cattle. A second objective was to determine the nature of the additive genetic relationships among HP, SR, and stayability (S(5/1)) in the same population. Heifer pregnancy was defined as the observation of a heif...

Additive genetic relationships between scrotal circumference, heifer pregnancy, and stayability in Nellore cattle.

Scrotal circumference data from 47,605 Nellore young bulls, measured at around 18 mo of age (SC18), were analyzed simultaneously with 27,924 heifer pregnancy (HP) and 80,831 stayability (STAY) records to estimate their additive genetic relationships. Additionally, the possibility that economically relevant traits measured directly in females could replace SC18 as a selection criterion was verif...
